MEET JIMMI

Jimmi O is a Bay Area songwriter and guitarist who has been writing, performing, and recording his spectral blend of rock for over three decades. He has played guitar (and sometimes bass) in numerous bands, acoustic duos, and as a soloist. While his initial influences include guitar legends like Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton, his focus has evolved. He has moved from guitar and keyboard riff-driven tunes with a "ripping instrumental solo" to a greater appreciation for the totality of musical and lyrical elements found in enduring songs that stand the test of time. Funk, bluegrass, finger style, indie rock, punk, jazz, and classical influences can all be heard in his work. One friend described his music as a mix somewhere between Jimi Hendrix and Jack Johnson. In addition, Jimmi is a former member of the GLIDE Ensemble gospel choir and has been active in Bread and Roses and the West Coast Songwriters associations.

Inspiration often strikes unexpectedly, providing "through the portal moments" that are the genesis for new song material. Jimmi might hear a hooky riff while noodling on his guitar, a new melody as he wakes from an afternoon nap, or a lyric while driving down a country road after surfing. No matter where the writing begins, his intention is to create singular, melodic music with a spark or surprise that piques the listener's ear and draws them into the song's story.

While Jimmi’s music explores a broad spectrum of experiences and observations, it is also a celebration of life with infectious danceable rhythms, distinctive melodies, and hopeful, if not humorous lyrics. Jimmi O just completed two new original recordings: “Yes No” and “Manta Ray” in collaboration with Junior Reed and Rob Sharyon.
