MEET JIMMI
Jimmi O is a Bay Area songwriter and guitarist who has been writing, performing, and recording his distinctive blend of rock, blues and jazz for over three decades. He’s played guitar and bass in numerous bands, acoustic duos, and as a soloist. While influences include guitar legends like Carlos Santana and Jerry Garcia, his focus has evolved from guitar and keyboard riff-driven tunes with ripping instrumental solos to a greater appreciation for the totality of musical and lyrical elements characteristic of the enduring standards. Funk, Americana, finger style, indie rock, punk, jazz, and classical influences can all be heard in his work. One friend described Jimmi’s music as a mix somewhere between Jimi Hendrix and Jack Johnson. In addition, Jimmi is a former member of The Glide Ensemble gospel choir and has been active in Bread and Roses and the West Coast Songwriters association.
Inspiration happens. A hooky riff pops out while noodling on the guitar. A new melody plays in his head while waking from an afternoon nap, or a lyric comes to mind while driving a country road after surfing. Wherever the writing begins, his intention is to create singular, melodic music with a spark or surprise that piques the listener's ear and draws them into the story.
While Jimmi’s music explores a broad spectrum of experiences and observations, it’s ultimately a celebration of life with infectious danceable rhythms, distinctive melodies, and hopeful if not humorous lyrics. Jimmi O just completed two original recordings: “Manta Ray” and “Yes No” in collaboration with Rob Sharyon and Junior Reed.
